Siemens Home Appliances launches its first-ever kitchen design book in Hong Kong, titled Great Minds in Kitchen Design. Siemens Home Appliances views the kitchen as an integral part of the modern living space, harbouring boundless potential that, with the right designs, could enrich the lives of families. This long-held belief has been the driver for Siemens to partner with some of Hong Kong’s most celebrated kitchen designers to create its showroom concepts, and Great Minds in Kitchen Design is a platform created for five of these designers to express their ingenuity – not through their works, but with their own words.
Great Minds in Kitchen Design celebrates the works of the finest kitchen designers in Hong Kong. The book features articles about Tommy Fong, Owner and Kitchen Designer at Kitench; Sunny Chan, Owner and Kitchen Designer at Elegant Kitchen; Almas Lam, Owner and Kitchen Designer at Bonkuchen; Gilbert Tam, Owner and Chief Designer at Pro-Kitchen; and Davis Ng, Owner and Kitchen Design Specialist at Euro Cucina, all sharing their views on the various types of kitchens commonly found in the city. The pieces documenting these creative minds are accompanied by professional photography taken at showrooms as well as concept artwork provided by respective designers.
The foundation of the living space known as kitchen lies in productivity. As the definition and design of kitchen evolved over time, kitchen is not only the cooking place, but also the center of modern living, serving as the social center to communicate, share and enjoy the food and healthy life for families and friends. A modern kitchen should be designed ergonomically, with quality materials and the products used should blend with the overall design itself.
To achieve that clean and modern look, built-in appliances are key. Modern built-in appliances, which are combined with kitchen cabinet, own the direct control interface, the innovative function and the simple operating process. All these are crucial to experience cooking and enjoying. Each family member can easily explore on the wonderful trip of delicious food.
In the past, the working space in the kitchen may be just a slab of marble on concrete, laid there with little regard to look and feel. However, with more and more people opting for an open kitchen at home, more attention should be given to the materials we choose. For example, materials that wear quickly over time are not suitable for kitchens, for kitchen work would most likely further shorten their life.
In addition to how the kitchen looks, how it works is also essential. Modern kitchen is no longer limited in the traditional triangle workflow - cooking, cleaning and storage, but is designed according to the individual habits of customers and is planned into the modern kitchen layout, which makes ergonomics important. The heights of different working areas should fit needs of the kitchen users. Working in a kitchen that is not designed ergonomically could lead one to adopt unhealthy postures and ultimately cause long-term health issues.
Siemens takes all three aspects seriously, ensuring that its kitchens not only look modern, but are also designed with productivity and people in mind.
